MS Mus. 1568. Iwan Müller (b. 1786, d. 1854): ‘Clarinett-Schule’, a tutor for his thirteen-keyed clarinet by the inventor and clarinettist Iwan Müller; circa 1829. A manuscript copy of Anweisung zu der neuen Clarinette und der Clarinette-Alto (Leipzig: Hofmeister, 1825). German. Dedicated to George IV. Slightly abridged text, with illustrations and musical examples. A printed fingering chart from the Hofmeister publication has been inserted (ff. 2v-3r). On ff. 29-30v there is an essay, ‘Einiges über Clarinette’, by Gottfried Weber, with a fingering chart for a nine-keyed instrument, and an essay on reeds by the bassoon player, inventor and composer Carl Almenräder, neither of which is in the published work. Inscribed on f. 30v, ‘Carl Almenräder Bieberich im Maÿ 1829’. The text between f. 19 and f. 28v is written in a different hand from the rest of the manuscript, which may be in the hand of Almenräder. The title page (f. 1r) is inscribed ‘Poss: Heÿer’ with ‘Gottlieb’ added in pencil. Presented by Pamela Weston, 30 Dec 2002.
