MSS Mus. 1571-1572. Herman Van Dÿk: ‘The Blind Girl of Castèl Cuillè’, cantata for soloists, choir and orchestra, words translated by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow from the Gascon of Jacques Jasmin, incomplete; 1893. Autograph full score in ink. English text. Unpublished. Composed in 1893, pre-dating Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s setting of the same text for the Leeds Festival in 1901. Performed in Halifax on 28 Feb. 1901, with the composer conducting. See The Musical Times and Singing Class Circular, Vol. 42, No. 698. (Apr. 1, 1901), pp. 262-263. Formerly owned by Calderdale Libraries. Transferred from the British Library Document Supply Centre, 1 Nov. 2001.
