‘SPIETATO OH! DIO’; late 18th – early 19th cent. The melody only of a song for soprano, with a blank stave ruled beneath, probably for a guitar accompaniment. Written onto two blank pages between pp. 37 and 38 of Frederic Schuman’s printed volume A Collection of the most celebrated Songs set by Several Authors adapted for the Guittar (Printed for Mlle Rauche, [1763]). A different, also anonymous setting of the same words is found in MS 1384 of the Santini-Bibliothek in Münster. The verso of the title page has a short melody in C major added by the same hand. Bookplates of Arthur F. Hill and Charles Keene. Purchased, 12 July 1947.
