FABURDENS AND A TONARY; 16th cent. Added to and bound with a printed Sarum hymnal, Hynorum [sic] cum notis Opusculum ad usum Sarum (Antwerp: per Christophorum Endouiensem impressum [Christopher Reremund], 1528). In addition, simple discant parts have been added in manuscript to several printed hymns in the volume, either in full puncta or with small dots, and small emendations have been made elsewhere. All margins of manuscript portions are cropped. ff. 186-200 have been foliated in pencil in bottom left recto in addition to the modern foliation in top right recto; the foliations agree, with the exception that ff. 189 and 190 are exchanged. The faburdens are listed in B. Trowell, ‘Faburden – New Sources, New Evidence: a Preliminary Survey’ in E. Olleson, ed., Modern Musical Scholarship (Stocksfield, 1978), pp. 28-78. For a photograph of part of f. vi and a realised transcription of f. 188, see B. Trowell, ‘Faburden’ in The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians (2nd ed.; 2001). Purchased, Dec. 1929.
