Op.3 (2nd edition, Goulding, D’Almaine, Potter & Co., [WM 1819]). In several different hands. On ff. 1-4 are some piano accompaniments for waltzes. The remainder of the manuscript portion of the volume is reversed and includes: 41 traditional songs arranged for flute solo (ff. 30-23); – ‘Bid me discourse’ by Sir Henry Bishop, arranged for voice and flute (ff. 23-20v); – ‘Love’s young dream’ from Thomas Moore’s Irish melodies, for voice and piano (ff. 20-19v); – ‘The Freischütz Rondo’ from Weber’s opera, arranged for solo flute and for two flutes (ff. 19-18, 15v-14); – quadrilles by Auber (from ‘Masaniello’), C. Miller, Pleyel, Paganini and Mozart (‘The Navarino Quadrilles’ from ‘Die Entführung aus dem Serail’) arranged for one and two flutes (ff. 12v-5v); and other dances for flute. Paginated in pencil in top inner margins. Inscribed ‘Henry / John Duncan / John Duncan / Peter Duncan’ (f. 30v). Purchased, Feb. 1979.
