Inscribed ‘S. Dawes’ Book, 1818’ (f. 1) and ‘1819 S. Dawes’ (f. i). In several different hands, with blank pages between several of the pieces. Purchased, Aug. 1981.

1. ff. 2-5. ‘Anthem Taken from the 15th Chapr of the Epise to the Corrinthians’, beginning ‘Now is Christ risen from the dead’, for treble, countertenor, tenor, two treble instruments and basso continuo.
2. ff. 7v-14. ‘Anthem for Christmas Day’, beginning ‘Their [sic] were shepherds abiding in the field’ for four soloists, two treble instruments and basso continuo. At the end is written in pencil ‘This beats all the Hal-le-lu-jahs I ever saw. G.C.S.’.
3. ff. 15v-16. ‘Chorus’, beginning ‘Sing, O heavens, and be joyful’. The start of the second soprano part only.
4. ff. 17v-20v. ‘Anthem from the 133rd Psalm’, beginning ‘Behold, how good and joyful a thing it is’ for treble, countertenor, bass and basso continuo.
5. ff. 21v-22. Pieces for a solo treble instrument, presumably solo flute. Including:— ‘Plough Boy’: variations on the folk-song (ff. 21v-22); – ‘Grand Waltz’ in D minor (f. 23v); – movement in C major (ff. 26v-27); – ‘Cookoo’s Solo’ and ‘No 50’ (f. 28v); – ‘Ivanoff’ (f. 29); – ‘The Sea, music by Newkom’ (song ‘An mein Schifflein’ by Sigismund von Neukomm, words by Barry Cornwall) (f. 30); – ‘Alice Gray’ (f. 30v); – ‘La Louise’ (f. 31); – ‘Waltz’ in F major and ‘The Maid of Judah, sung by Mr J.
