WRITINGS ON MUSIC; after 1531. A comparison of the initial notes for each mode in the theory of Pietro Aaron, Stefano Vanni and Franchino Gafori, with musical examples showing syncopes and cadences. Aaron’s theories correspond to those in his untitled pamphlet published in Venice in 1531. Bound with two printed treatises: Bonaventura de Brixia, Regula Musice Plane (Mediolani: per I. M. de Ferrariis, 1507) (K.1.g.10.(1.)) and Tractatus Musices (Venetijs: J. B. Sessa, [1510?]) (K.1.g.10.(2.)). K.1.g.10.(1.) is inscribed ‘Ad usum Io: Camilli de Guidottis in Catedrali Placentie Prebend.’ and ‘Antonij Francisci Ghetij Sacerdotis Placentini.’ (the latter deleted); the front flyleaf is inscribed ‘Richard: Allott Plasenza, July 8th 1821’. Purchased, 18 July 1859.
