THOMAS TALLIS: ‘O salutaris hostia’; 2nd half of 16th century. Written onto blank staves at the bottoms of pp. ii-iii, iii, ii-iii, iii and vi-vii respectively of the Canto, Tenore, Alto, Basso and Quinto printed part-books of Aurelio della Faya, Il Primo de Madrigali a Cinque Voci (In Venetia: Appresso Francesco Rampazetto, 1564). The composer’s name is not given. The hand is probably English, and the name Orlando di Lassus on the title page of the Quinto part may be in the same hand. The books have some other annotations, including the addition of bar-lines at certain places. Purchased, July 1849.
