THOMAS BATESON: Quintus and tenor parts of madrigals; 18th cent. Copies, added in manuscript to complete a defective set of printed partbooks of Bateson’s The first set of English Madrigales: to 3. 4. 5. and 6. voices (Thomas Este, 1604). The additions consist of nos. 21 and 22 in the Quintus book (‘Sister, awake’ and ‘Hark, hear you not’), and the whole of the tenor book. The tenor book is in the hand of Charles Burney, and the additions to the Quintus in another hand. The printed books bear the signature of Conyers D’Arcy. Purchased, 22 May 1873.
