‘AN ANTHEM TAKEN OUT OF Ye 145 PSALM’; after 1742. Written on the final pages (ff. 91v-92) of a printed edition of William Tans’ur’s The Royal Psalmodist Compleat (Rugby: Engraved, and Printed by the Author, 1742), in a contemporary hand. The treble and bass parts are written, and the music is signed ‘Durham Sharpe’, a name which is also found on f. 74v. Psalm settings for treble and bass for Psalms 147 (‘Sarum tune. W. T.’) and 148 (‘Mansfield tune. W. T.’) have been added in a different hand to the verso of f. 86, to replace a missing folio between ff. 86 and 87. The book is inscribed ‘John Bosworth’ (f. 1, dated 1745, f. 7v and f. 74v), ‘Sr Nicholas Eales, Owner, 27 August 1747’ (f. 1) and ‘John Newland’ (f. 73v). Purchased, Dec. 1984.
