Scope & Content:

Correspondence of W.E. Gladstone with Queen Victoria and her private seceretaries 1845-94. [In 1928 A.T. Bassett counted 577 letters and 241 telegrams from the Queen, and about 500 from Sir Henry Ponsonby. The letters from Gladstone to the Queen number about 4460. They are mostly drafts or copies, but some patronage recommendations were originals returned by the Queen marked 'Appd. VR.']
