51291-51312. GORDON PAPERS Correspondence and papers of Maj.-Gen. Charles George Gordon (b. 1833, d. 1885), etc.; 1855-1932, n.d. The papers were given by Gordon's sister Mary Augusta Gordon to his niece, Miss Dunlop, who in turn gave them to her cousin Frederick Moffitt in 1897. Lt.-Col. Moffitt, the son of Gordon's youngest sister Helen, died in 1952 and was General Gordon's last surviving nephew. Other Gordon papers in the Department include Gordon's diaries and miscellaneous papers, bequeathed by Augusta Gordon (Add. MSS. 34474-34483); The Bell Collection, assembled by Gordon's brother, Sir Henry William Gordon (Add. MSS. 52386-52408); Gordon's letters to R. S. Standen (Add. MS. 40665), to C. M. Watson (Add. MS. 41340 D), to C. H. Allen and the British and Foreign Anti-Slavery Society (Add. MS. 47609); the Romolo Gessi papers (Add. MS. 54495); the Zubeyr Pasha papers (Add. MS. 61856); and Add. MSS. 45982 H, 52412, 52428, and 70638 F. Bequeathed by Lt.-Col. Frederick William Moffitt, D.S.O., through his daughter, Mrs Alma May Wroughton, 9 February 1963.
