BIBLE HISTORIALE: a narrative based upon the Bible and apocryphal texts, written, and probably compiled, in England; mid 14th cent. French. Beg.: (Prologue) 'Al roi de glorie Deu omnipotent'. The text of the Acts of the Apostles is taken from the rare 'Anglo-Norman' Bible, see S. Berger, La Bible Française au moyen âge (1884), pp. 230-237. For a similar text to the present manuscript, see Paris Bibliothèque National MS. Fr. 9562 (Berger, pp. 351-352). Lacks six folios from the table of chapters, with loss of text. See also J. Vising, Anglo-Norman Language and Literature (1923), p. 71. Fragment of verse in margin, late 15th cent., beg. 'Fyer withowt hete can not be' (f. 3). Memoranda, late 15th cent.: 'hopsom, betwyn Salt Eshe and Plomwourth xij mylez' (f. 1), a reference to Salt Ash, co. Cornw., and Plymouth, co. Devon. Names written: 'Samuell La[ne?] discharger of [Dencheche?, Dymchurch?, co. Kent], 16th-17th cent. f. 570v;- 'Daniel Hicks. Necholas James', early 17th cent. f. 571. Label on spine '541', 19th cent.
