RECIPE BOOK: 'Receipts of Different Concerns'; early 18th cent. Subject matter includes cleaning and treatment of metals and leather, archery, writing in code, training a setter, 27 recipes 'coppyed out of an old manuscript' (ff. 44-51), and novelty items, for example 'How to make a squib Candle that will affright ye Company', said to have been used to frighten a judge in 1677 (f. 52). Household recipes in a late 18th cent. hand occur (ff. 57-61). At f. 75 is a sketch showing how to joint a bullock; 18th cent. Contemporary index, ff. 62-74v. '6875' in pencil (f. iii). Accessioned by the Patent Office Library, 9 Oct. 1902 (ff. 1, 74v), accession no. 28722 (f. iii). '16' in pencil (f. i verso). Patent Office Library stamp throughout. Transferred from the Department of Printed Books, 7 Nov. 1968.
