Correspondence and papers of Dr Albert Charles Lewis Gotthilf Günther, F.R.S., Keeper of Zoology at the British Museum 1875-1895, and his brother, Dr Carl Theodor Günther, physician; 1847-1914. German, with some English. Partly printed. Some photographs. The main correspondent is their mother, Eleonora Louise Günther: a small amount of other correspondence, etc., of Mrs Günther is included in the collection. The collection contains little material dated later than 1862. The papers were used for Günther's biography in A. E. Gunther, A century of Zoology at the British Museum through the lives of two Keepers 1815-1914 (1975). Owned by Robert William Theodore Gunther (b.1869, d.1940), zoologist, the elder son of A. C. L. G. Günther; Robert Gunther's heraldic bookplate occurs at the front of every volume. Presented by Albert Everard Gunther, son of R. W. T. Gunther, 14 Dec. 1968.

Paper. Six volumes. The material was arranged in six volumes by the Gunther family, probably by R. W. T. Gunther. Rebound in a standard temporary binding by the British Museum in 1969.
