CREYKE COLLECTION: miscellaneous letters, etc., chiefly addressed to Walter Pennington Creyke (1828-1892) and his wife Caroline; 1787-1887, n.d. Partly French and Italian. Walter Creyke was the author of a comedy 'Maxime', first produced at the Theatre Royal, Dublin, in March 1864. His wife was the reputed authoress, under the pseudonym 'Diane Chasseresse', of Sporting Sketches (1890). The letters are mainly from artists, singers, musicians and other prominent persons. For an account of Creyke and his wife, see M. Hastings, Diane A Victorian (1974). Sent to the British Museum by an unknown person in an envelope post-marked Towcester (f. 64). Incorporated, 29 October 1969, under the terms of a letter of the Director of the British Museum, 19 April 1933, regarding unclaimed deposits.
