RECULVER, KENT: estate map ' . . . a Mapp of the Farm at Reculver Anno Domini 1623'; 1623, with 18th cent. additions. Scale: [approx. 1:6336]. The map shows the coastal area, subsequently much eroded, which is included on Ordnance Survey County Series, Kent, 1:2500 (2nd edn) sheet nos. XXIV.9 (Reculver Parish) and XXIV.10 (Chislet Parish). It was annotated in ink and pencil to show changes in ownership, land use, field boundaries and erection of buildings, circa 1761, when an information table was added. In 1764 panels indicating the ownership of the plan ('Lee Warly, Canterbury. 1764') and acreage of the estate were added. On the reverse are the title of the plan, 1623, and further notes on the ownership of the farm, 1733-1761. Inscribed in pencil in the upper right hand corner of the reverse '12'. Purchased at Sotheby's, 3 March 1980, lot 34.
Ink and watercolour on vellum. 432 x 305mm.
