(1713-1788), relating to his visit to Athens with Nicholas Revett, while collecting material for their Antiquities of Athens Measured and Delineated (1762-1816); 1751-1752. Autograph. Containing notes and tables of the latitude of Athens and other places, and notes and pencil and ink sketches of Attic coins, weights, arrow heads, etc. For related material, see Add. 22153. Formerly Phillipps MS. 15433. Purchased at Sotheby's, 17 Dec. 1981, lot 158.
Paper; ff. 18 (ff. 10, 12, 16 have been largely cut away). With three sets of contemporary foliation, all disturbed; in the top left-hand corner, apparently by Stuart: 1, 2, 10, 9, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 5; reversing the volume: 183, 192, 189-191, 193, 194, 180-182, 188, 187, 195-197; pencilled pagination: 1-7, 13-19, 9, 11, 23-27, 21, 29.
