KEW PALACE ACCOUNTS: housekeeper's account-book for Kew Palace ('The Dutch House'); 1824-1863. Possibly associated with Mrs M. Murphy, Housekeeper at Richmond Lodge (see The Royal Kalendar), whose name occurs at (f. 45v). Chiefly recording quarterly disbursements for goods and services (ff. 1-69v). From 1825 till 1839 the name of the department to which the payments are charged is regularly given. These are chiefly the Lord Chamberlain's and Lord Steward's Offices, but also include the Office of Woods, the Master of the Horse and the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall. At the end, reversing the volume, are lists of linen received (ff. 88-87), of furnishings and pictures removed (ff. 86, 85) and of quarterly payments received, mostly from the Board of Green Cloth and the Lord Chamberlain's Office for board wages (ff. 86v, 84v-74). At some time in the 19th cent. the volume was used as a copybook, possibly by A. Farrow, whose name appears on f. 19 and very faintly on the front cover. Purchased at Christie's, 23 Feb. 1983, lot 56.
Paper; ff. iii+88 (ff. 70-73 are stubs). Contemporary vellum binding, with '2.R[-]' marked on the spine. 324 x 147mm.
