STATUTES OF ENGLAND, 1327-1435; mid-15th cent. French. Preceded (ff. 8v-32) by an alphabetical index. With illuminated initials and headings and paragraphs marked in red and blue. With the early 16th cent. ownership inscriptions of William Adye (ff. 1-2), who has added headings for January to April for a calendar at the beginning of the manuscript. In the index (f. 22) occurs the inscription 'Edwardus Weld 1725. Aetatis suae. 20'; Weld also inserted some entries under the calendar heading for February and added some Latin prayers at the end of the manuscript. Armorial bookplate (f. i) of Thomas Weld (1750-1810). The Weld family also owned the Luttrell Psalter and the Bedford Psalter and Hours, now Add. 42130, 42131. Purchased from Alan G. Thomas, 19 March 1984.
Vellum; ff. iii+373. 191 x 140mm. Gatherings of 8, except i6, signed alphabetically throughout the main text in two sequences with roman and arabic numerals respectively, with some signatures cropped. The initial gatherings containing the index are signed in separate sequence. Written in a 15th cent. cursive book hand, in single columns of 33 lines each. Calf binding, stamped with the arms of Weld of Lulworth, 17th cent.
