Latin and Dutch In some verses dated 1 May 1806 (f. 21) the author describes himself both as J-B. Jacobs and as 'Gisbertus Lumnius, Capucinus extrusus'. Besides acrostic and emblematic verses, elegies and epithalamia the contents include numerous congratulatory pieces, etc., relating to members of the Van de Velde family, Barons de Melroy en Sart-Bomel. Most of the verses in the volume incorporate chronograms that supply dates of composition. Pasted inside the front cover are printed book-labels, circa 1823, of 'J. B. G. Jacobs Lumnius, Ord. Cap. Brux, S.P.C.' (f. iii) and, circa late 19th cent., of James Hilton, F.S.A., the anthologist of chronograms (f. iv). For collections of chronograms compiled by Hilton, see Add. 68939-68941, and for another volume owned by him, see Add. 65193. Transferred from Collection Development, 23 Oct. 1989.
