'Fête Galante': opera, described as 'A Dance-Dream' (f. 3), in one act by Dame Ethel Smyth (libretto, the composer after Maurice Baring, versified by Edward Shanks); 1922. Autograph. Full score. Dated 6 Nov. 1922 (f. 11v). The manuscript makes provision for performance in reduced scoring, with the brass reduced to a single horn, by marking in red alternative lines for the remaining instruments. First performed Birmingham Repertory Theatre, 4 June 1923. Published Vienna: Universal Edition, 1923, in vocal score. For the composition of the work see C.
