After her marriage to Count Hugo von Bernstorff in January 1939 the Countess settled in Wotersen, Lauenburg, Schleswig-Holstein, and spent the duration of World War II in Germany; the bulk of the collection consists of correspondence between her and her husband during his absence on military service. Presented in March 1994 by Mrs Christopher Harris, whose memoir of Countess von Bernstorff is incorporated in Add. 71524. Add. 71522-71524 are reserved from public use until March 2014.
