HUGHES-HUGHES FAMILY ALBUM: compiled by Augustus Hughes-Hughes (b.1857, d.1942), Assistant Keeper, Department of Manuscripts, British Museum; 1831-1942. A scrapbook containing photographs, newspaper cuttings, concert programmes, correspondence, school reports and other miscellaneous documents relating to members of the Hughes-Hughes family. The album is especially concerned with the lives of Augustus Hughes-Hughes, his first wife Ilona Carolina Augusta de Bajza, daughter of Gustav and Hélène de Bajza Heckenast, of Maroth, Hungary, and their surviving son Eustace Paul Augustus de Bajza Hughes-Hughes, but also refers to almost every member of the family as described in Burke’s Landed Gentry. Several of Hughes-Hughes’ articles relating to music manuscripts are included, as well as reviews of his books. Other cuttings relate to the promotion of Hungarian interests within London society by Mrs Hughes-Hughes. Most of the concert programmes are for London drawing-room concerts held by Mrs Hughes-Hughes and others, several of which included performances by members of the family and by visiting Hungarian artists. The album is adorned throughout with decorative colour-printed scraps (not included in the foliation) and is annotated throughout by Augustus Hughes-Hughes and others. Purchased from Diana Ilona de Bajza Hughes-Hughes (granddaughter of Augustus Hughes-Hughes), 20 June 1994.
Paper; ff. 914. 292 x 232mm. Gold stamped black and green half-leather binding.
