CHARLES DE MONTMORENCY: inventory and valuation of the goods at Paris of Charles de Montmorency, lord of Bouqueval and Baubigny; 8 Feb. 1463. French. The inventory is included in a submission by Jacques de Villars, lord of l'Isle-Adam and chamberlain to Louis XI, to the garde de la Prévosté de Paris that relates to a dispute over the succession of Charles de Montmorency. It was drawn up by the royal notaries Bernard Miecte and Jehan Pinot at the request of Jehanne de Racault, widow of Charles de Montmorency, and Guillaume de Sévigné, husband of Charles's eldest daughter Jacquette. The goods are listed by room and include household furniture and furnishings, clothing, kitchen and table ware, and wine. The total valuation is 2060 Paris livres and 15 sous. For an outline of the structure of this inventory see M. Jurgens, Documents du Minutier Central des archives notaires de Paris. Inventaires après décès, I (Paris, 1982), pp.13-17. The document is signed by Jehan Pinot only, but, according to the dorse, was ordered to receive the seal of the Prévosté of Paris on 23 March 1470. Owned by Sir Thomas Phillipps, Bart. (Phillipps MS 35891). Sold at the Phillipps sale at Sotheby's, London, 19 May 1913, lot 976 and at Christie's, South Kensington, 9 Sept. 1994, lot 42 (part). Purchased of Sam Fogg, Cat. 16, item 102 [1995].
