JAMAICA. [Anonymous sketch-map of a sugar plantation called 'Tryall']; late 18th cent. No scale given. Map oriented with south at the top. The map gives a limited amount of topographical detail, but the surveyor has included a number of informative notes and has taken care to establish the western boundary of the estate, the northern and the eastern boundaries being the sea and a river, respectively. A long note at the foot of the map suggests that it was intended to persuade the proprietors of the estate to proceed with a plan 'for the encrease of pasturage...Something of this kind is absolutely immediately necessary for the good [word illegible] of the property as a sugar estate ...'. The most likely location for the estate seems to be in the area of the Flint River and Tryall Club, on the north coast of Jamaica west of Montego Bay. Purchased from J. L. M. Gulley, October 1995.
Ink on paper. 480 x 385mm.
