Paper: ff. ii+5. Quarto. Binding of full blue morocco, unsigned but probably by Riviere, with gilt doublures and foredges, lettered on the front cover, 'Sir Edward Waldegrave [rule] Autograph letter signed / concerning / the Earls of / Southampton and Pembroke / 1615'. For item (1) see (f. ii) Sotheby's sale-cat. 17 Feb. 1936, lot 181, and Messrs. Maggs' Catalogue no.798 (1950), item 528. Items (2) and (3), subsequently inserted loose in volume, now tipped in.

1. f. 1. Edward Waldegrave, 1st Bart.: Letter of news apparently to Theobald Maurice, secretary to the Privy Council of the Elector Palatine, mentioning the appointment of George Villiers, later 1st Duke of Buckingham, as Gentleman of the Bedchamber to James I; 28 April 1615. French.
2. f. 2. Vittoria de' Medici, wife of Ferdinand II, Grand Duke of Tuscany: Letter to the Marquess Gabriello Riccardi, Florentine Ambassador at Rome, requiring his good offices for Giovanni Carlo Coppola, Bishop of Muro, who is to visit Rome 'con la permissione di poter mandare in luce il suo Poema'; Florence, 31 Oct. 1646. Italian. Signed.
