LÉON GOOSSENS COLLECTION: collection of music manuscripts belonging to the oboist Léon Goossens, C.B.E. (b.1897, d.1988), consisting of original compositions, and transcriptions, editions and arrangements of other pieces; 1921-1977, n.d. Many of the works bear stamped or manuscript indications of Goossens's ownership. Goossens is the dedicatee of those works marked with an asterisk (*); other dedicatees are noted in the descriptions. Except where stated, the works in Section A are autograph, and those in Section B are in the hand of the editor, arranger or transcriber. The manuscripts are written in ink except where stated. Significant annotation, which is often related to performance, is noted in the descriptions. Dates quoted are taken from the manuscripts themselves. Dates of editions cited are taken from the Catalogue of Printed Music in the British Library to 1980; publication is in London except where stated. For further details about the Goossens family in general, see C. Rosen, The Goossens: a Musical Century (1993). Purchased at Christie's, 15 Aug. 1991, and incorporated 1995.
