ANDALUCIA. 'Mapa topographica de la Dehesa de Buceite, propria del Exc^mo Señor Duque de Medina-Sidonia, en termino de su villa de Ximena. Año de 1761. Don Pedro Alonso de Salanoba y Guitarte lo hizo en Madrid su patria. Año de 1777.' Scale circa 1:14500. 'Escala de 2000 varas' (= 115 mm.). Map oriented with south-south-east at the top. There is a key to the map in the upper left corner, and a compass-rose and title cartouche in the lower right, both with frames decorated frames in a restrained baroque style. The map itself shows mines, mills, and roads on and adjacent to an estate owned by the Duke of Medina-Sidonia near Jimena de la Frontera. An area coloured yellow in the east of the estate and keyed as 'Terreno demarcado p[ar]^a la fabrica' may suggests that the map was originally intended to accompany a plan for further exploitation of mineral deposits on the land shown. The map can be compared, as an example of Spanish 18th century local mapping, with the contemporary Spanish-American mapping in the Felipe Bauzá collection (Add. MSS 17556-17676).
