Folio. 48 plans of encampments, battles and sieges in the Netherlands and north Germany 1600-1644 generally measuring 39.5 x 49.5 cm. Ink and coloured washes on paper. List of contents (f.1v). Contemporary vellum covers. All the plans are pricked for copying. The contents include 36 orders of battle, usually with no scale or geographical information, with the exception of the plans of the battle of Nieuwpoort (1600) (nos. 1&2), Rees (1605) (no.4), Bisseler near Wesel (1621) (36) and Arnisne (1631) (37). The remaining 12 plans are of sieges and battles in the Netherlands. Plan 8 (`Troisiesme Ordre de Linfanterye a Julier 1610' ) is missing. Two plans by `N. Renaut Mathematicien Sedaunois' (for whom see also BL Add. MS 16369 and Archives Nationales, Paris, IJJ 116) of the sieges of Gravelines (1642) and of the Saas van Gent (1644) were inserted after the completion of the list of contents. Despite similarities of style, Renaut, who claims to have been present at the siege of Saas van Gent, was not responsible for any of the other plans.
