WAR OF THE AUSTRIAN SUCCESSION. 'Carte du Portloüis en Basse bretagne, avec ses environs ou L'on voit Lendroit ou L'Anglois a fait la descente sur ses côtes le 1er octobre 1746' by Louis Francois Benjamin Dumont de Montigny who appears on the Louisiana State Museum Map Database; circa 1746. Scale: 120 toises to the inch [approx. 1:9355]. Shows the route of the English attack on the stores of the French Company of the Indies in Lorient, Brittany. The troops used in the attack were conveyed by Admiral Richard Lestock. The action was unsuccessful and the troops were repulsed (Dictionary of National Biography, vol. XXXIII, p.114). Purchased from Renaud-Giquello & Associés, Drouot, Paris, 24 Nov. 2003, lot 251.
