"ARTIS medicæ practicæ obseruationes:" a collection of medical cases, with prescriptions, opinions, and copies of correspondence, chiefly of Jehan Fernel [ob. 1558], phyisician to Henry II. of France; in two books, with tables of contents. Lat. and Fr. At the end of Book i. f. 177, is the note, "His obscruationibus practicis a doctissimo Fernelio collectis finem scribendi imposui hac die decima nona Aprilis, anno Domini 1571," to which is added, in another. band, "Joannes Lamy, Medicus Paris;" and at the end of Book ii. f. 259, is the date "1571, 9 Jullii." In some cases the names of the patients are given, including:-"Pro domino de Granuelles [Nicolas Perrenot de Granvelle], cancellario Caroli 5 imperatoris, mense Jullii, 1549," f. 161;-Albert, Margrave of Brandenburg; 1557, f. 179;-"Pro regina Leonora"[Eleanor of Austria, widow of Francis I. of Fiance]; 1550, f. 204;-"Pro archiepiscopo a Sancto Andrea, Scoto" [John Hamilton]; 1551, f. 232;-"Pro domino [Thoma] Maluenda, imperatoris theologo et consiliario," f. 246 b. Some of the opinions are printed in the "Medicinalium consiliorum Joannis Fernelii, Ambiani, centuria; Francofurti, 1593." Included also is the tract, "Luis venereæ curandæ ratio, vna cum doctissimi Joannis Fernelii, Ambiani, antidoto ac ipsius luis alexipharmaco;" copied 9-28 July, 1571, 259 b. On spare leaves at the beginning and end are additional medical recipes, etc. ; and on f. 2 are some French verses in praise of sobriety. Paper. On ff. 2, 178 b, 291 b, are signatures of [François] Le Vignon, physician, of Paris, whose book-plate also is on the inside of the cover. Folio.
