A collection of harmonised melodies, and settings of the 'Te Deum', in the hand of Abbate Fortunato Santini
- Scope & Content:
-
ff. 1-15. 'Octo melodæ octo modorum harmoniæ factæ, ut modulabantur sæculo vii ad præscriptum Adami de Fulda et Franchini Gaforij'; in the hand of Abbé Fortunato Santini, by whom they appear to have been collected, and in part harmonized, for his friend the Rev. Edward Goddard. They are set to the opening words of the 'Gloria Patri,' or the Psalm 'In Exitu Israel.' Besides the authors mentioned above, Santini quotes Zarlino; and, according to the Rev. Thomas Helmore (who annotated the volume in 1868), he probably also used a work of Alfieri's published in 1840. Helmore has himself collated portions of the MS. with another supposed to be the work of Giuseppe Baini.
ff 15b, 20b. Two settings of the 'Te Deum,' in which the verses are alternately in plainsong and harmonised. The first setting appears to be by Giuseppe Baini; the second by the Abbate Fortunato Santini, the writer of the whole MS.
