PSALTER, with calendar, Canticles, Athanasian Creed, Litany, etc. Vellum; ff. 238. Written, apparently in Denmark, early in the xiiith cent. The text is profusely ornamented with illuminated initial letters and finials; a miniature stands at the beginning of the Psalms, and this is preceded by eight leaves containing miniatures of scenes from the Life of Christ. In the calendar have been entered obits of royal and other personages of Scandinavian origin. From these it appears that the MS. belonged to Jacobus, son of Suno, who was brother and father of two bishops of Roeskilde, and himself became a monk of Hamburg, and died in 1246. (See a description of the MS., by A. W. Franks, in Archæoiogia, vol. XLVI., "Two Manuscript Psalters in the collection of William Bragge, Esq."). Some prayers, etc., have been added in a hand of the xviith century. The binding is fitted with a large silver clasp. Small Octavo. From the Farnborough Fund.
