Chrysography. Initials in red or brown. Apparatus in brown and red.

Materials: Parchment.
Dimensions: 280 x 180mm (text space: 210 x 100mm)
Foliation: ff. 112 ( + 1 unfoliated parchment leaf and stub at the beginning, and 1 leaf at the end).
Script: Caroline minuscule.
Binding: Pre-1600. German, c. 1485 stained red leather over 12th-century (?) boards, stamped with double-headed eagles, mermaids, and geometric designs; the edges are yellow. Identifiable with Einbanddatenbank ('Binding database') number ‘w004288’, a workshop based in Mönchengladbach, Germany (see 'Einbanddatenbank', http://www.hist-einband.de/recherche/ebwerkz.php?rwz=b&id=100207u). The binding appears to feature the following tools: Einbanddatenbank numbers s032979, s033019, s033021, s032645.

Origin: Germany, W., (?Corvey).
Provenance: ff. 112r-v contains added readings for August and September starting imperfectly and ending incomplete, in 12th-century German hand.
The shelfmark 'A II' and the title 'Evangelia secun[dum] Luca[m] et Joan[um]' is on the fore-edge in Latin in black ink and '3' on the upper edge of the leaves. The Gospels of Matthew and Mark were presumably volume 'A I'. (The outer edges of the manuscript are photographed as flyleaves: f. iii recto is the upper edge; f. iv recto is the fore-edge; f. v recto is the lower edge).
Thomas Rodd the younger (b. 1796, d. 1849), London bookseller, bought from him on 28 March 1840 by the British Museum using the Bridgewater fund (£12,000 bequeathed in 1829 by Francis Henry Egerton, 8th Earl of Bridgewater (b. 1756, d. 1829).
