" THE DESIGNED LOYALTIE of the renowned generall George Monck in restoring King Charles the Second, justified in a Memoriall delivered to the Right Honorable John [Granville, 1st] Earl of Bathe, to which is annexed a Postscript. By John Price, D.D., chaplain to the late and now Duke of Albemarle": a copy with autograph corrections and the author's " Information " to the Kin,,, signed and dated 12 July, 1676 (f. 3 b). The long postscript and some other parts of this important historical tract are not found in the printed text of 1680 (The mystery and method of his Maiesties Restauration), but the whole of the present text and some of the corrections are incorporated in a copy in Harl. MS. 4178 (which belonged to W. Webster, the editor of T. Skinner's Life of Gen. Monk, 1723). The notes not found elsewhere are (a) two autograph notes on f. 1 concerning the presentation of a copy of the book to the King and concerning Monck's commission from the Rump, and (b) autograph note on f. 108 b concerning Dr. Richard Allestree, Provost of Eton (1665-1681). Paper f. 109. xviith cent. Bound in dark olive morocco, tooled, like Harl. MS. 4178 (see above), but without the Royal arms.
