Grant of manors from King Henry VIII to Anne of Cleves

Deed whereby King Henry VIII grants to Anne of Cleves, in part satisfaction of dower and jointure, the manors of Great Waltham, Mashbury, Dunmow, Great Leighs, Great Baddow and Farnham in Essex. These were worth 312 marks 8 s. 1.25 d. yearly, and formerly held by Henry’s third wife Jane Seymour. Anne was to hold them for her life, even after marriage, provided she dwelled within the realm of England. 5 January, 31 Henry VIII [1540].
The deed is signed by Henry VIII, with a fragment of seal of the Duchy of Lancaster, appended by green and white plaited silk ribbons.
