Title:

GRANVILLE COLLECTION. Works by George Frederick Handel, in score, most of them transcribed by his amanuensis, John Christopher Smith, senior, but a few leaves (Eg. 2935, ff. 1-21 ; and Eg. 2941, ff. 1-10 b, 68, 68 b) appear to be in the hand of James Hunter, described by Hawkins, in his General History of .... Music, as a " dyer of Old Ford," and an enthusiastic admirer of Handel and his works. Almost all the scores are published, but with considerable variations, by the Händel-Gesellschaft, to whom the present MSS. were evidently unknown. In thirty-seven volumes. Folio. Calf binding (panels of original leather inlaid). The MSS. belonged originally to Bernard Granville (1709-75), of Calwich Abbey, co. Stafford, whose bookplate is inserted at the beginning of each volume.
