" MUSIC IN MACBETH " [1672], commonly attributed to Matthew Lock, with symphonies and accompaniments for instruments, in score. At ff. 14-18 there is an alternative setting of the passage beginning " Now I go," apparently (see his letter at the top of f. 14) by Richard Leveridge (fl. 1695), whose name also appears on f. 3 as one of the singers. Among the miscellaneous papers at the end are:- (a) An engraving of the Duke's theatre, Dorset Gardens, 1814. f. 25;-
(b) Copy by Thomas Oliphant of the music to a scene from Middleton's "TheWitch." f.27;-
(c) A printed account of the " Macbeth " music, by Joseph Warren, circ. 1841. f. 29 ;-
(d) Articles on the same subject contributed to musical papers by Professor W. H. Cummings, 1875, 1876. Printed. ff. 36-39;-
(e) Fly-leaf from Vinculum Societatis, 1698, with the melody of the Witches' dance. f. 41. Paper, ff. vi + 42. Folio. Late xvii cent. Belonged to Dr. Philip Hayes (1797), Robert Smith (1813, bookplate of arms), Hon. G. O'Callaghan (bookplate, crest, 1856), Thomas Oliphant (sale-cat., Puttick's, 1873, lot 581), and Prof. W.
