MISCELLANEOUS OFFICES, etc., in Latin, viz. :— (1) Officium nominis Iesu, f. 2 ;— (2) Prayers to be said before and after Communion; a prayer to the Virgin, f. 19 b, has the marginal note in a late 16th cent. hand " Non audit beata virgo nostras praeces itaque velim omissas aut amissas." f. 12 ;— (3) " Sequitur psalterium abbreuiatum diuini ac gloriosissimi Hieronimi doctoris ecclesie, Hymnus de sancto Hieronimo." f. 20 b. Hymn beg. " Ecce qui Christi decorauit aulam " ; the Psalter is divided into portions for the Canonical Hours, with prayers and antiphons. In the 'Salve Regina' at compline the word 'Regina' is altered to ' Rex,' with a marginal note " Advocatum habemus ; nullam, apud deum, quam memini, advocatam," in the same hand as the note .on f. 19 b;— (4) Various hymns and prayers (including two prayers in Portuguese, viz. :— (a) beg. " Souerano pontifice con tua sabedoria,' f. 38 b, and (b) beg. Contemporary Spanish (Saragossa ?) binding of wooden boards covered with leather, stamped on each cover with a central vertical diapered panel with an ornament of two interlaced half links of a chain, surrounded by four fillets of five lines (except the outer fillets, which vary from four to five lines) and three bands of interlaced chain ornament. The ornament of the central panels and inner bands is identical with that of the central panels in the two square compartments of each cover of a Roman Missal printed at Saragossa by Georgius Cocus, 1519 (Dept. of Printed Books, C. 27. g. 6 ; Weale, Cat. of Rubbings of Bookbindings, South Kensington, p. 318, no. 900), and the outer bands have the same ornament in both books (cf. also Add. MS. 10008, Weale, l.c., no. 899). Gilt and gauffred edges. On f. 1 are stamped the initials G. C. ff. iii-v are slips of a 14th cent. Latin service book (?) used in the binding. The MS. belonged to Robert William Low (bookplate, f. i, with pencilled note [by S. C. Cockerell] about the binding), and Henry Benjamin Wheatley (salecat., Sotheby's, 9 Apr. 1918, lot 534).
