Autograph. Composed on the Island of Majorca, 1838-1839, and published in 1840. Autograph title page (f. 1) '2 Polonaises pour le piano forte dediées a Mr. Jules Fontana par Chopin. Oe[u]v. 40 [altered from 39]'. In some bars the music is not written out but indicated by numbers and letters. Some corrections have been made by the composer. Paper; ff. 5. Oblong folio. A.D. 1838-1839.
