'A NEW BOOKE OF RECEIGHTS of Rents Anueties and Interest moneys begining at St Mary day 1638 written at Heryford, at John Fletchers howse' by Joyce Jeffreys (d. 1650), daughter of Henry Jeffreys of Ham Castle, co. Worc., covering the period 1638-1648, and giving receipts (f. 1-22) and disbursements (ff. 25-72). Autograph and signed, ff. 18, 58b, 68b. See J. James, 'The Diary of Joyce Jeffries, a Resident in Hereford during the Civil War' in Transactions of the Woolhope Naturalists' Field Club, 1921-1923, pp. xlix-lx) and the Rev. R. G. Griffiths, 'Joyce Jeffreys of Ham Castle', Transactions of the Worcestershire Archaeological Society, N.S., x, 1933, pp. 1-32 (reproduces part off. 58b); xi, 1934, pp. 1-13; xii, 1935, pp. 1-17, where many extracts from the present MS. are printed. On f. 23 is a note headed: 'May 3d 1651. An abstracte out of my Aunte Jeffreyes hir book of receipts, of moneyes and moneyes due to hir for consideracions in arreare from severall persons.' The same writer (probably her nephew and executor, William Jeffreys) is responsible for notes on ff. 17, 72 and (reversing the volume) 73b-73. Paper; ff. ii+73. 455 mm. x 190 mm. xvir cent. Armorial bookplate, signed and dated 1858, of Sir Thomas Edward Winnington, 4th Bart., of Stanford Court, co. Worc., whose family inherited the Jeffreys property in 1725 (see V.C.H., Worcs., iv, p. 249). The MS. is noticed among those at Stanford Court in 1870 in Hist. MSS. Comm., 1st Report, App., p. 53.
