Leic., executed to the order of William Hastings, 1st Baron Hastings (beheaded 13 June 1483); 23 Oct. 1480-6 Dec. 1484. Latin. Published, in a condensed English version, with introduction and notes, by A. Hamilton Thompson, 'The Building Accounts of Kirby Muxloe Castle, 1480-1484', Transactions of the Leicestershire Archaeological Society, xi, 1919-1920, pp. 193-345 (see also pp. 87, 88 for a short preliminary description of the MS., by T. H. Fosbrooke, with reproduction of ff. 80b-81). One folio, after f. 140, printed in Thompson, op. cit., p. 341, as f. 141, is now wanting. Paper (watermarks, a unicorn, a pot, a cup, letter P and a hand); ff. ix + 145.
300 mm. x 215 mm. 1480-1484. Gatherings very irregular, consisting in the main of three enormous quires. Some vellum fragments bearing dates in 9 Hen. VI and 2 Ed. IV, used to strengthen the sewing, have been removed and laid down as ff. i-ix. At the time of publication the manuscript formed part of the Hastings muniments at Ashby-de-la-Zouch, then in the possession of Mrs Edith Maud Abney-Hastings, Countess of Loudoun 1921.
