'A PLAN OF LANDS AT CASTLE HEAD Lindall [Lindale] and Wilson House [in Upper Allithwaite township] in the Parish of Cartmel and County of Lancaster', surveyed by William Johnson; 1810. Below the title is a pen-and-ink wash drawing of Wilson House. In the upper right-hand corner is an explanatory key to the fields and boundaries. On a scale of 3 chains to the inch (26,2/3 inches to 1 mile). Johnson was appointed 24 Aug. 1796 to survey that part of the parish in which these lands lie by the Commissioners under the Enclosure Act for Cartmel parish, 36 Geo. III, c. lxiv, [1796], though it was not until 13 Oct. 1809 that the Commissioners actually signed their award. The plan evidently shows the lands in Cartmel belonging to the heirs of John Wilkinson, the iron master (d. 14 July 1808), litigation over whose will (Wilkinson v. Adam) began some time before 4 Feb. 1813 and continued until 11 June 1823. See Lords Journals, 1823, pp. 760a, 773b, and J. Stockdale, Annales Caermoelenses, Ulverston, 1872, passim. Vellum roll; 1.105 m x 0.615 m. A.D. 1810. The plan appears originally to have formed part of a bound volume of approximately quarto size. From the Farnborough Fund.
