JOURNAL of the Rev. John Browne, on board H.M.S. 'Majestic'; 24 May 1798-2 Nov. 1799. The journal begins with the detachment of the 'Majestic' and other ships from Lord St Vincent's fleet in the Mediterranean to join Nelson off Toulon, and includes (ff. 13-18) an account of the battle of the Nile (1-2 Aug. 1798), in which the 'Majestic' suffered severely, losing her commander, Capt. G. B. Westcott, shortly after the action began. There is a crude and inaccurate tinted sketch-map (f. 17b) of the battle disposition of the French fleet (the page showing the English disposition is wanting). Paper; ff. 45. Quarto. 1798-1799. Belonged, 20th cent., to Mrs P. A. Vincent. From the Farnborough Fund.
