COURT-BOOKS OF TRETHEVY MANOR, in St Cleer, Cornwall; 15 Oct. 1688 - 2 Nov. 1762; together with subsidiary papers going back to 20 July 1653 and continuing down to 1835. Latin and English. According to the anonymous Parochial History of the County of Cornwall, i, Truro and London, 1867, the lordship of the manor was purchased from the Ingram family in 1678 by the Lyne family. However, on the original back cover of Eg. 3322 A (f. iib) is the name 'Mr Ingram' and on f. 17b of the same MS. is a record of rents received, 7 Apr. 1702, by Gabriel Tresare, apparently the steward, to the use of John Ingram. On f. 20 of the same MS. the court held on 11 Apr. 1704 is described as that of Theophilus Lyne and John Lyne, his son. A letter of 12 Sept. 1710 (Eg. 3322 C, f. 26) suggests that the latter had by then become the effective lord of the manor and he is described as such in a list of tenants in 1714 on f. 2 of Eg. 3322 B. He was still lord on 2 Nov. 1762 (see Eg. 3322 C, f. 17). Other material relating mainly to Trethevy manor and coming from the same immediate source as the present MS. is Eg. Ch. 2257-2289. These and the present MS. belonged until 1946 to Mrs Owena Clapham, of Tamerton Foliot, co. Devon. Paper and vellum. Three volumes. Folio. From the Farmborough Fund.
