Wyatt Papers; 1722-1884, n.d. As follows.- (1) Correspondence and papers of members of the Wyatt family, 1772-1880, n.d., chiefly:- (a) James Wyatt the elder, architect (b. 1746, d. 1813); 1772-1811. ff. 1-35b passim;- (b) Matthew Cotes Wyatt, sculptor (b. 1777, d. 1862), son of J. Wyatt, mostly on professional matters; 1804-1850, n.d. ff. 11-153 passim. At the beginning (ff. 1-2b) is a letter of Horace Walpole (4th Earl of Orford 1791) to James Wyatt, with an imperfect autograph copy by Wyatt of his reply; 26 July, 1 Aug. 1772. Both letters are printed by A. Dale, James Wyatt, 1956, pp. 133-134. Dale evidently used the present papers (as well as others not now in the collection, e.g. the letter of Christopher Codrington to M. C. Wyatt published by him, op. cit., p. 194) before they came to the Department. ff. 1-154b.
(2) Correspondence, etc., of M. C. Wyatt, with John Foster, mostly relating to the monument to Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson, Viscount Nelson, at Liverpool, designed by Wyatt, together with other correspondence on the same subject; 1807-1813, n.d. Partly drafts. See also M. C. Wyatt, Prospectus of a model to the memory of Lord Nelson, intended to adorn the habitations of those who appretiate his services, 1808. ff. 155-180b.
(3) Correspondence of M. C. Wyatt with John Henry Manners, 5th Duke of Rutland, on professional matters; 1826-1854, n.d. Partly drafts. ff. 181-230b.
(4) Correspondence of M. C. Wyatt's second son, the younger James Wyatt, sculptor, on professional matters; 1845-1884, n.d. At the end (ff. 260-262b) is a letter to one of James's brothers, relating to their father, n.d. ff. 231-262b. For other MSS. in the British Library and elsewhere relating to the Wyatt family, see A. Dale, James Wyatt, Architect, 1746-1813, 1936. Further letters of the elder James Wyatt are now Add. MSS. 39781, f. 49, and 42072, f. 43. Paper: ff. 262. Folio. 1772-1884. From the Farnborough Fund.
