Title:

SCOTT PAPERS. Vols. I-XXXI. Out letter books of Scott; 1746-1779. Autograph. All except 3725 are indexed. The letters partly relate to manorial, genealogical and antiquarian matters. Includes (3749, f. 66) family notes by Scott's cousin, William Derham (d. 1757), President of St John's College, Oxford. The original numbers allocated by Scott to his letter books are noted below. One of the missing volumes, '55', is now Eg. 3877. Letters to Philip Morant, historian of Essex, include copies of originals now in Add. MS. 34650, ff. 206-230. See also Add. Thirty-one volumes. 3725-3738, 3740, 3749, and 3753 are or were bound in white vellum, mostly with brass clasps (3726-3728 have been rebound and with 3739, 3741 and 3742 are in British Library bindings); 3743, 3744, 3747 in green; 3745, 3746, 3754, 3755 in quarter calf; and 3750 in brown calf, blind-stamped and tooled. 3725-3734, 3741, 3748-3755 are in Octavo format, the rest in Quarto.
