SIR SIMONDS D'EWES: copies and abstracts of records kept in the Tower of London; bef. 1650. Latin. Partly autograph. The Chartae Antiquae lettered A to Z are copied in full as far as class X and abstracted for Y and Z. The present volume is far more heavily annotated by D'Ewes than is the similar copy in Harl. 84. The remainder of the volume (ff. 114-253) consists of abstracts from the Patent Rolls of Richard II, for which see also Harl. 91. Purchased from Arthur Page Books, June 1984.
Paper; ff. 257. Originally two manuscripts now bound together. Binding of brown calf with D'Ewes arms stamped on the front and back and two brass clasps. Inscribed by Thomas Leman, 1687, as the gift of John Thorowgood, M.D. 345 x 235mm.
