SPENCER ARMORIAL: armorial of the Spencer family of Wormleighton, co. Warw. and of Althorp. co. Northt. compiled by Mercury Patten, Bluemantle; dated at end 29 May 1611. Text in French, Latin and English. Dedicated (f. 1) in Latin to Robert Spencer, 1st Baron Spencer (d.1627). At f. 2 is the full Spencer achievement in colour. The shields of the families quartered thereon are blazoned and drawn in colour on the following folios: Spencer (ff. 2v-4), Deverell (ff. 4v-5), Lincolne (ff. 5v-6), Warsted (ff. 6v-7), Graunt (ff. 7v-8), Ruding (Rowding, ff. 8v-9), Catlin (ff. 9v-10). For the family connections, see George Baker, History and Antiquities of the County of Northampton (1822-1830), Vol. I, pp. 95-96, 108-109. With a 'carmen heroicum' at f. 11v. Purchased from Quaritch from the Farnborough Fund, Dec. 1990.
